Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 July 2026
WhatoGrow (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a free Australian garden planting calendar built by one person in their spare time, with assistance from artificial intelligence. This policy explains what information we collect when you use whatogrow.com, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We've written it in plain English because you deserve to actually understand it.
If you have questions, email us at hello@whatogrow.com.
What we collect and why
Your location (postcode and suburb)
When you enter your postcode or suburb, we store it locally on your device, in your browser's local storage, so you don't have to re-enter it every visit. We do not send your postcode to our servers or store it in any database. It stays on your device, and you can clear it any time by clearing your browser data.
IP-based location (first visit only)
On your first visit, we may ask a third-party geolocation service (ipapi.co) to estimate your approximate location from your IP address, purely to pre-fill your suburb suggestion. We don't store the result. It's used once, in the moment, to make the form slightly easier to fill in.
Usage analytics
We use PostHog and Vercel Analytics to understand how people use the site: which pages are visited, which plants are looked at, roughly where in Australia our users are. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. We use it to improve the app. PostHog is self-hosted on our infrastructure. Vercel Analytics is privacy-focused and does not use cookies.
Contact form
If you send us a message via the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message content. We use this only to respond to you. Messages are processed via Resend and are not shared with third parties or used for marketing.
Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
We display ads served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google's Ads Settings. Our ads are clearly labelled. We do not control the content of ads Google serves.
What we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not collect your name, email, or any personal details unless you contact us via the contact form.
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not use your data for marketing.

Cookies
We use a small number of cookies, primarily from Google AdSense for ad personalisation. We do not use tracking cookies ourselves. You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Disabling cookies may affect how ads display, but will not affect your use of the planting calendar.
Your rights

Data storage and security
Our postcode and climate data is stored in a Neon Postgres database hosted in AWS infrastructure. Contact form submissions are processed by Resend and are not retained on our servers beyond what is needed to deliver your message. We do not store your location data server-side.
