Snails and slugs

Night-feeding molluscs that shred seedlings and leafy greens, leaving ragged holes and slimy trails, worst in damp weather.

Irregular holes with silvery slime trails, seedlings vanishing overnight, hiding under pots and mulch by day.

Hand-pick after dark, set beer traps, or use iron-based (pet-safe) snail pellets rather than metaldehyde.

Clear damp hiding spots, water in the morning so surfaces dry by night, and protect seedlings with barriers.
